THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) lauded local governments in Benguet for extending support to the agency by designating focal persons in the municipalities to cater to the concerns of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families.
Owwa-CAR (Cordillera Administrative Region) Director Manuela Peña said the involvement of the local government units in attending to the concerns of the OFWs and their families would greatly help the agency in responding to OFW concerns and problems.
The Owwa and the 13 towns of Benguet have signed an agreement for the establishment OFW migrant’s desks in every town.
Peña said local officials know their constituents more and they are the ones who first receive the concerns of OFWs, thus the need to tap the LGUs in attending to their concerns.
“The LGUs’ involvement will greatly help us, especially since they are the first ones who are approached by their constituents regarding OFW concerns,” she said.
The migrant’s desks would receive and refer OFW concerns to the Owwa. (JC) Sunstar
