PDEA RO1 Welcomes New Director

CAMP DIEGO SILANG– The torrential downpour of the rainy season would greet the incoming director ROBERTO S. OPEŇA for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office One (PDEA RO1) on August 06, 2008, as the formal turnover of command would be held at the four corners of the PDEA Conference Room.

The Ceremonial turnover which would be witnessed by the heads of the various law enforcement units of Region One including PDEA Director General DIONISIO R SANTIAGO would also give highlight to the achievement of the out going Regional Director PSUPT JANE ANDRES AUNZO, who served the regional office for more than two years.

PSUPT AUNZO was designated as Acting Regional Director of PDEA RO1 on May 11, 2006. Her termination and her Reassignment at the Holding Office PDEA National Headquarters was made effective by the Agency Orders numbered 2008-15, dated July 25, 2008. It also stated the Designation of Director Roberto S. Opeňa as her subsequent replacement.

Questioned by many if the termination of PSUPT AUNZO would in any way affect the ongoing investigation of the recently raided Naguilian Shabu clandestine laboratory. Task Force BImmotobot assured that there would be no hindrance of the investigation and guarantees the smooth transition of the duties and responsibilities as co-task force commander by the new director.

Director OPEŇA traces his roots in Balanga, Bataan, but grew up on the highlands of Baguio City where he eventually found his rank as a criminologist. By 2003, he finished his Masters in Business Administration at the Wesleyan University, Philippines. Formerly a Technical Assistant of Task Force Garuda of PDEA, he worked on numerous government and private institutions as an intelligence officer and held key military positions covering a broad range of field command and staff assignments. He is also a recipient of numerous awards and decorations.
