VIGAN CITY, Aug. 4 (PNA)– Governor Deogracias Victor Savellano advised all residents living in areas that are low-lying and near mountain slopes in Ilocos Sur to take all necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides.

Savellano made the call even as typhoon Julian continuously battered Ilocos Sur on Monday, bringing in heavy rains that already forced the cancellation of classes in elementary and high school, public and private.

Department of Education Assistant Superintendent Estrella Soria said all elementary pupils and high school students will hold make-up clases on Saturday to offset the day they had no classes as a result of the typhoon.

Francis Dacanay, officer-in-oharge of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), said his office is continuously closely monitoring the different coastal towns whose residents may be affected by the storm surge.

“Our office and the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) are now on standby for possible rescue and relief operations as a result of the typhoon”, Dacanay said.

No amount of damages was reported yet. (PNA)
