Mayor orders Session Road trial closure

SESSION Road will now be closed regularly for promenades.

The closure began last Sunday and every Sunday thereafter.

The closure will be experimental and covers certain portions of Session Road – between Patria de Baguio building and the Philippine National Bank, and at the opposite lane between the Philippine Long Distance Telephone company building and McDonalds.

Mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. said the pedestrianization of Session Road will add to the appeal of the area, if not Baguio as a whole.

Admitting the plan is ambitious, Bautista said this is the reason why only a portion of the road will be closed and can be either withdrawn or adapted to the present traffic situation in the business district.

The mayor said banning motor vehicles will relieve the area of air pollution and will allow church-goers, tourists and locals to leisurely stroll about.

The experimental closure will also determine the feasibility of closing the entirety of Session Road for the area’s planned future development.

The city police’s Traffic Management Branch will be on site starting on Sunday to enforce the order, while the City Engineers Office will provide appropriate signs and markers for vehicle owners, the riding public and pedestrians. (RO)
